Shaqiri vows to prove Bayern worth
Basel young star Xherdan Shaqiri has vowed to succeed in the German Bundesliga when he joins Bayern Munich at the end of this season.
The Switzerland international has been regularly linked with a move to the continent's top sides over the last year, but it was Bayern who announced his capture on Thursday.
Having now signed a deal that will see him stay at the Allianz Arena till 2016, Shaqiri was quick to reveal his delight at joining Bayern, and was looking forward to proving himself in Germany.
"It's not a normal move for someone to leave the [Swiss] Super League for such a big club," Shaqiri told TZ. "I am determined to prove my worth at Bayern and I'm ready for the competition for places.
"Half of Europe seemed to be interested in signing me, and a lot of things have happened in the past two to three years.
"A lot has been written about a potential transfer and I'm very happy that I have signed for Bayern."
Still only 20, Shaqiri has already earned 17 caps for Switzerland, scoring four goals in the process.
