Galliani: Milan had no defence

Adriano Galliani has expressed that key injuries to AC Milan’s defence was the reason they fell 4-0 to Manchester United.

Milan will now have to focus on the Serie A after getting eliminated from Europe's elite competition, with Inter Milan leading the league by four points.

"What happened was that we were missing too many quality players, in defence particularly," Galliani told Sky after the match. "You cannot get away with this against Manchester United.

"We were without [Alessandro] Nesta, [Luca] Antonini and [Daniele] Bonera, which meant that we had no defence. Had we had these players, it could have been a different story.

"Our attention will now turn to the league, which will allow us to return to this competition next season.

"The team has not been developing as much as the other big sides in Europe, but I am not angry. I just told [coach] Leonardo and the players to give it their all in the league," he concluded.
