Premier League Team of the Week 15
Kelvin Leong salutes Bellamy and Tevez for standing up to John Terry in his Premier League Team of the Week.
Pepe Reina - Liverpool
With Iker Casillas in goal for Spain, it will be hard for Reina to become Spain's first-choice stopper at the World Cup. If Reina was English, Fabio Capello will have a lot less sleepless nights. His reflex save to deny Christopher Samba a last-gasp equaliser was enough to warrant a spot in our Team of the Week.
Michael Dawson - Tottenham
When you have a goalkeeper like Huerelho Gomes standing behind you, you better be focused. Dawson has been the unsung hero for Harry Redknapp's side this season with Jonathan Woodgate and Ledley King both unable to play in consecutive matches. Strong in the tackle and vocally commanding, an England call-up could be on the cards.
Zat Knight - Bolton
Bolton have evolved into a team more confident of playing the ball on the ground since Owen Coyle took over from Gary Megson and it showed on Saturday when defender Zat Knight strolled up the park to score for the home team. He was solid at the back and proved to be a threat going forward.
Wayne Bridge
All eyes were on his hands rather than feet when Manchester City walked out at Stamford Bridge but Wayne refused to let it affect him as he put in a solid shift at the back. He stuck to Joe Cole like superglue and in the process, cut out Chelsea's most creative player on the pitch. Job well done for Team Bridge.
Steven Gerrard - Liverpool
Liverpool will never play well unless Gerrard delivers. When their captain is on fire, it seems to galvanise the whole team and that was exactly what happened against Blackburn Rovers on Sunday. He was on hand to give the Reds a first-half lead and with Fernando Torres also back to full fitness, Rafa Benitez's side will be hot favourites to seal the final Champions League spot ahead of Spurs, City and Aston Villa.
Luka Modric - Tottenham
Started the season in spectacular fashion before being crippled by an injury. Modric seems to be desperate to make up for lost time since his comeback as he never seems to stop running in every game he plays in. His playmaking skill is his bread and butter but against Everton, Modric showed that he can finish them off as well as he sets them up. A wonder-goal to give Spurs their second goal.
Cesc Fabregas - Arsenal
In a game that will be remembered for Aaron Ramsey's horrific injury, Fabregas was one of the first to put his head into his hands as he watched on helplessly as his young team-mate was attended to by the medics. What makes him such a great player is the way he rallies the team on and leads by example. While the rest of the Gunners were trying to recover from the Ramsey incident, their captain only had one thing in his mind. To net three points and keep his team in the title race. Win they did and who else but Fabregas to stroke home the all-important penalty.
Lee Chung-Yong - Bolton
Pioneers, Park Ji-Sung and Lee Young-Pyo set the standards very high for South Koreans planning to try their luck in the Premier League and Lee has already started to show signs of matching his more illustrious compatriots despite playing for a Bolton side that have been poor throughout the season. He toyed with the Wolverhampton defenders and showed just why he was one of the most highly-rated wingers for the new generation of Taeguk Warriors in the last few years.
Roman Pavlyuchenko - Tottenham
From the outcast of White Hart Lane to the toast of the Lilywhites. Pavlyuchenko's time at Spurs is a mystery to all but in the last fortnight, the Russian striker has shown that he has what it takes to survive in the top flight. Right time, right place as he darted in to slide home Jermain Defoe's pass into an empty net. So what happens now? Sell him or keep him?
Carlos Tevez - Manchester City
Just when Chelsea looked to be in cruise control after Frank Lampard's goal, the Argentine hitman stunned Stamford Bridge into silence with the last touch of the first-half to level the score. With another penalty conversion in the second-half, Tevez and Craig Bellamy unlocked the code to the usually unbreakable Stamford Bridge fortress. Tevez even had time to give John Terry a nice shove in the chest. Most definitely a Team Bridge supporter.
Craig Bellamy - Manchester City
Known for his hot-tempered behaviour, Bellamy is as unpredictable as the weather. Combined well with Tevez to give JT and his Blue troopers a nightmarish time in defence. His goal gave City the lead and proved that when Bellamy is in the mood, nobody can stop him.
