Serie A Team of the Week 17

Serie A Team of the Week 17

Inter Milan breathed a sigh of relief as AS Roma and AC Milan cancelled each other out on Saturday, but could break down Genoa themselves.

A win for Jose Mourinho's men would have seen them climb six points clear of their nearest rivals, but they just could not find their way past a resilient Genoa side and despite a strong finish, the hosts had to settle for a point.

Here is the best the Serie A had to offer this week though, and it should make for better reading than Inter's goalless stalemate:

Rubinho - Livorno

The goalkeeper showed Palermo what they were missing with five world class stops. Only the red hot Fabrizio Miccoli was able to get past him nine minutes from time as Livorno went down 1-0.

Juan -AS Roma

The Brazil international really earned his wage on Saturday as he had to contain Ronaldinho, Marco Borriello and Klaas-Jan Huntelaar. The match was a success by Juan's terms, as it ended in a Roma clean sheet, with the defender a consistent presence in Claudio Ranieri's rotation.

Giorgio Chiellini - Juventus

Chiellini has made many appearances in the Serie A TOTW, and for good reason. The Italian centre-back was steadfast for Juventus against Fiorentina, but had to leave the game injured. He is reported to be out for at least a month.

Salvatore Bocchetti - Genoa

The 23-year-old stopper was up to the task as Inter Milan threw Diego Milito, Mario Balotelli and Samuel Eto'o at him. Bocchetti silenced the trio and helped the Grifoni to a credible goalless draw.

Stefano Guberti - Sampdoria

The winger came alive for the Blucerchiati this weekend against Lazio, scoring Sampdoria's first goal in the 29th minute via a screamer and providing opportunities for his team-mates through some deadly crossing.

Mohamed Sissoko - Juventus

The midfield destroyer dominated the middle of the park against Fiorentina. Sissoko did the usual dirty work of winning back possession for the Bianconeri, but showed a rare side of his repertoire as he released Fabio Grosso with an exquisite through-pass to win the match for the Old Lady.

Sergio Almiron - AS Bari

Almiron has always been known to be a technically gifted player, and he's added some toughness to his football in his stint with the southern Italian club, flourishing with the 12th placed team. In Bari's 1-0 win over Chievo, Almiron showed his class and work-rate as the Flying Donkeys were grounded.

Andrea Cossu - Cagliari

The attacking midfielder has been the toast of the Islanders' 2009-10 Serie A campaign. Coming in as a substitute in the 57th minute against Catania, the Italy international took over the game by the scruff of its neck and scored the equalizer in the 74th minute.

Fabrizio Miccoli - Palermo

Miccoli is on fire, and Palermo are the beneficiary of his rich vein of form. Italy could use him now as well upfront. The diminutive striker struck in the 81st minute against Livorno, when Nicolas Bertolo found him inside the area and the forward struck towards the bottom right corner beyond Rubinho.

Adailton - Bologna

The veteran striker scored a hat-trick last week and followed that up with a winning goal against Napoli on Sunday. Sure it looked like a fluke, but Adailton deserved the goal after showing his determination defending from the front and closing down the Partenopei's defenders.

Jose Castillo - AS Bari

The 34-year-old rolled back the years as he chested the ball down in the middle of the penalty area, and let fly to score in the 20th minute against Chievo to earn them maximum points in the Galletti's quest to return to winning ways.
