Mascherano: I am ready to sign up
Javier Mascherano has told the Liverpool hierarchy that he is ready to extend his Reds deal, according to The Telegraph.
Liverpool are desperate to tie the 25-year-old midfielder down to a long-term deal amidst interest from European and Spanish champions Barcelona last summer.
A deal worth £100,000-a-week is said to be mentioned. But there are conflicting reports suggesting the Argentine wants to extend his deal to 2014 instead of 2012.
"I'm waiting for an answer," he said. "They know what I want - it depends on them and not me."
Mascherano is also ready to face English champions Manchester United on their own backyard. While United are chasing an unprecedented 19th league title, Liverpool are chasing fourth spot to secure UEFA Champion League football next season.
"It's difficult for us, for the supporters and I think it will be hard but in our minds we know that we can beat them," said Mascherano, according to The Telegraph.
"We have to win for us because we need to be in the Champions League next season. It will be hard for the other teams involved in fourth place to take if we beat United - it will be a shock."
