Barcelona rejected offers for Thiago

Barcelona have rejected three offers for their promising teenage midfielder Thiago Alcantara, according to reports.

The player's father Mazinho told Marca that a trio of La Liga clubs including Sevilla, Atletico Madrid and Real Mallorca all made bids for the 19-year-old.

"It is important for the boy [Thiago] that clubs such as Atletico Madrid, Sevilla and Real Mallorca are interested in him, but right now Barcelona don't want to talk to anyone," Mazinho said in Marca.

Thiago was born in Italy but is naturalised Spanish national and is the latest starlet to come off the Barcelona production line which continues to produce quality players at a young age.

"Sevilla were interested and the club [Barcelona] showed me the offers they had but I never knew how many years [the contracts] they were for, if they were four, five or one [year contracts]," Mazinho was quoted as saying.

"Barcelona know he wants to stay here and continue his development.

"It is normal that Thiago is a bit sad about going back to the second team but he is happy because he knows he is going to play."

Thiago made his first team debut in May 2009 when he came on as a substitute for Eidur Gudjohnsen against RCD Mallorca. He scored his first goal for the club in February 2010 after another impressive cameo from the bench, this time against Racing Santander.
