Italian and Juventus legend Alessandro del Piero has sent his commiserations to the injured David Beckham.

Beckham tore his Achilles tendon while playing for AC Milan last weekend. The injury has ruled him out of a record fourth straight World Cup appearance for England - something that he had set his heart on.

Speaking to Mediaset, del Piero was full of sympathy for the midfielder.

"I'm really sorry for what unfortunately happened to him," he said.

"With the World Cup just two months away and in the thick of the title race, it's really tough to come to terms with such an injury which suddenly takes it all away.

"I'm particularly sorry for him because I know him very well. He is a good lad, a big professional.

"Dear David, I'm sure you will overcome this challenge too. Good luck. We'll meet again on the pitch," was del Piero's parting message to the crocked player.
