Warren: DeGale up for 12 rounds
Frank Warren believes James DeGale is treading new territory by accepting a title showdown after only six fights.
DeGale will step up to the championship distance of 12 rounds for the first time when he meets Sam Horton for the vacant WBA international super-middleweight belt at Upton Park on May 15.
The 24-year-old has yet to progress beyond four rounds in his unbeaten six-fight professional career.
"I can't recall anyone stepping up to fight for a title over 12 rounds after just six fights, certainly in my time of boxing," said the promoter.
"This is a big step up for James but I have such faith in him that I think he's more than capable of winning this title and moving on to bigger things.
"We're pushing him hard and fast. He needs a challenge to rise to and hopefully this will get the best out of him.
"He needs to go the longer distance. He'll be a much better fighter doing 10 or 12 rounds. He's ready for this.
"He's dedicated, he's fit, he doesn't cheat and isn't a playboy.
"He wants it and will become the British first Olympic gold medallist to win a title. He has the capability to do that.
"I think James his progressing faster than expected. He's got a great amateur pedigree.
"We'll see what happens in this fight but I don't think he's far away."
