Kvitova to miss Qatar Open

Kvitova to miss Qatar Open

A painful right Achilles tendon has caused world number two Petra Kvitova to pull out of next week's Qatar Open.

The 21-year-old Czech player was set to be the number two seed for the WTA tournament, which runs from February 13-19, but will now rest and recover.

A hectic January has seen Kvitova win the Hopman Cup in Perth with compatriot Tomas Berdych, make the semi-finals in Sydney and the Australian Open before helping the Czech Republic into the semi-finals of the Fed Cup.

Announcing her withdrawal, Kvitova told Dnes: "I've had a tough start to the year and I must rest up and recover properly."
