NHL: Devils down Rangers
The New Jersey Devils were 1-0 winners over the Eastern Conference-leading New York Rangers for a fifth straight victory.
Martin Brodeur stopped 30 shots for his first shutout of the season and the record 117th of his NHL career.
David Clarkson scored the all important power-play goal in the first period.
The Washington Capitals beat the Florida Panthers 4-0 with former Panthers goalie Tomas Vokoun stopping 42 shots.
Victory also earned the Capitals top spot in the Southeast Division at the expense of the Panthers.
Alex Ovechkin (2), Mathieu Perreault and Jason Chimera got the goals.
Tomas Plekanec scored on Montreal's eighth attempt in the shootout as the Canadiens won 3-2 against the Pittsburgh Penguins.
Evgeni Nabokov made 45 saves and Frans Nielsen and John Tavares scored in a shootout as the New York Islanders edged Philadelphia 1-0.
A first career goal from rookie defenseman David Savard, who also had an assist, helped the Columbus Blue Jackets defeat the Minnesota Wild 3-1.
Second period goals from Kyle Clifford and Dustin Penner helped the Los Angeles Kings beat the Tampa Bay Lightning 3-1.
Brian Elliott made 28 saves and David Perron scored twice as the St Louis Blues won 3-1 over the Ottawa Senators.
The Vancouver Canucks had a fifth win in six games as a 4-3 shootout defeat of the Nashville Predators came courtesy of a sixth round goal by Alex Edler.
The Winnipeg Jets had a 2-1 win over the Toronto Maple Leafs with Bryan Little scoring the go-ahead in the second period.
Phoenix were 4-1 winners over Dallas and Colorado beat Chicago 5-2.
